Spring is in the air. Finally. The weather has been warming up all week and the days are getting longer.  Time marches on.  I find myself trying to keep life busy and my days happy. Yesterday I was on a roof in Penticton and it was beautiful outside. The sun gleamed off the glassy water of Skaha Lake and the sun reflected the feeling of optimism I held onto.  Summer is right around the corner and flowers are peeking up Read more

4 20 23

Four twenty was celebrated in Canada. It is a day that weed smokers everywhere rejoice in the legality of their herbal enjoyment.  It wasn’t always that way. If someone had told me ten years ago that Canada would legalize the demon weed, I would have laughed at the thought. Yet a mere two years later the country elected a Liberal government that campaigned on just such an idea. It was one of the few promises they kept.  It has been Read more

The division still exists. I wanted to think that it was over. With the last gasps of covid19, I thought we could return to a time of sanity. A time like before when we may have disagreed with other people but still respected their right not to agree. That seems to have disappeared. I stood outside the bar on Saturday night. We were having a safety meeting, in the shadows. Suddenly my companion started a rant about how Trudeau and Read more

April 10, 2023 A Ski Season For the Ages.

Sixty-two days on skis. Over six hundred times on the chair. Big White treated me right and I had a fantastic ski season—my best season in my life.  I hope to have many more. We finished the season off in style. Although we never reached the top of the mountain for the T-Bar party, we enjoyed a final evening of music and connection at the Globe Cafe. After three trying years of the Coronaverse, we made it to the end.  Read more

Killer Bees

Bradley Garret stared, entranced as the bees swarmed toward him. He’d never seen anything like it. In all his years as a beekeeper, the bees were always calm and peaceful. This time they came at him like an organized entity. The bees were out for blood. He had no idea where they came from. They were not from any of his normal hives, Bradley threw his arms up and tried to swat them away. They kept coming, and he ran. Read more

Mother Nature decided it was a great day to play a joke on everyone. She gave Big White Ski Resort a final day of awesome powder skiing. It was no joke though. It was real, and it was really good. It may not have been a joke but laughs filled the mountains. Barrman, Kaydee caught up with Cookster and Crispie on the third chair in the morning. And they rode the Ridge Rocket with powder turns in their sights. A Read more

Death In the Window Ch. 2 version 2

Chapter 2 Greg Malkovich lowered his ropes into place for his next set of windows. A stiff breeze whipped around the edge of the building. His hair blew into his face as he stared at the dark clouds hanging ominously above. Three hundred fifty feet of line dangled below him. Looking up he hoped the rain would hold off a while longer. He’d better hurry. He shouldn’t have taken such a long break; the weather was turning on him. He Read more

Death In The Window

Chapter 1: Out of Control Kamlei stared at the plastic test kit in her hand. Her hands shook as she waited. She felt torn inside. When she missed her time of the month, nervous butterflies swarmed inside her. It was the second test she took, she had to make sure – there could be no doubt about the results. The blue plus sign told her all she needed to know. Her heart raced as she paced through her large apartment. Read more

March 23, 2023 The first draft is complete.

It was March 23, 2020 and I just finished a walk with some dear friends at Big White. I sat down and wrote my first journal entry. My wife said I should share it on Facebook. I thought, hey why not? The reaction was very positive. So the next day I wrote another one.  On my fiftieth birthday April 3, I published my Blog.  Now here we are three years later. One of the best things that came out of Read more

March 17, 2023 Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

Music flowed from the man’s fingers and into the soul. It was a day of celebration and camaraderie at the Globe at Big White Ski Resort. It was Saint Paddy’s Day.  Jon Bos played his heart out and the bar vibrated with the joy of live music. It was the first Saint Patrick’s day when everything felt like it should. Tables were tightly packed, people were laughing, and the little dance floor filled up with smiling patrons enjoying the connection Read more
