April 10, 2023 A Ski Season For the Ages.

Published by Victor Barr on

Sixty-two days on skis. Over six hundred times on the chair. Big White treated me right and I had a fantastic ski season—my best season in my life.

I hope to have many more.

We finished the season off in style. Although we never reached the top of the mountain for the T-Bar party, we enjoyed a final evening of music and connection at the Globe Cafe. After three trying years of the Coronaverse, we made it to the end.

And we had two days of powder to top it off.

I even managed to get my kid on the mountain for the last turns of the season.

Fulfilled would be the word I would use to describe the end of the season. I wanted to ski to the very last moment. But sometimes responsibilities take over. My daughter had to work at four o’clock so we pushed it by leaving at two. At age seventeen, this may have been the last year I get to enjoy my kid on the slopes. We even managed to ski fresh tracks in the park as our swan song run.

Spring has sprung in the valley and most people who live in the Okanagan are ready to move on from the ski season. Mother nature on the other hand was not. She delivered three days of powder to Big White and even added another monster snow the day after.

Twenty-seven centimetres of snow fell on an empty mountain the day after it closed!

It was like Mother Nature wanted the last laugh.

But we did have a bunch of laughs the last weekend. We celebrated with all our mountain friends and rocked out to Jon Bos and his buddy Paul Dekker. They rocked the Globe and filled the dance floor. They had such a good time no one wanted it to end. They even played an extra thirty minutes.

But alas all good things must come to an end.

I will look back at the ski season of 2022-2023 as one for the ages. One I hope to repeat as many years as possible. There is something about turns on snow that fulfills my soul.

Now it’s time for a new season. Time, to enjoy the water and the rest of what the Okanagan has to offer. Because the one thing we can all count on is the passage of time. And I intend on making the most of the time I have.

I hope you do too.
