John looked at the restaurant as he drove past. He remembered times from not so long ago when he could just walk into the entrance, sit down and grab a cold beer with his buddy. That was before this whole pandemic thing blew up. Now he is one of those that have been told to stay away, he’s not safe. No passport, no beer. He isn’t ready for the vaccine.  One day he thinks he will get it, maybe. But he Read more

A Sonnet For a Fish

From the depths comes the one he seeks It is pulling, turning, diving in resistance Above the surface it turns and peaks Reeling faster he narrows the distance It swims away and out screams the line Pulling harder now he reels in his prize He stretches and cranks in search of a sign He reefs harder reeling and feeling its size In the distance he sees it leap From the depths to the surface He hopes it is the one Read more

October 25, 2021

Rain has soaked our world the last month as if mother nature is trying to even things out for the intense heat of this past summer.  I drove along the wet pavement and headed to the store for some supplies for our cats, Gabby and Snowbee. In an instant he was there, running in front of my car. I didn’t have time to brake. It was a sickening sound I heard when my tire hit his little body. In all Read more

Oct 23 2021

They announced the lifting of some restrictions in our province this week. As of Oct 25, there will no longer be restrictions on the capacity for any indoor events in BC – mostly, sort of. In the north and parts of interior health and Frasier health regions, they have kept restrictions in place where vaccination rates are low. Why do we still have to wear masks indoors then?  I am so confused. And that is the problem and the reason Read more

October 21, 2021 Plastic Wars

Plastic waste floats across our oceans and fills beaches and valleys throughout Asia and the world. We have been told for decades to recycle plastic, that it is environmentally friendly. They have put labels on our plastic containers and told us that this was good, we were helping. They Lied. After over forty years of increased use of plastics, the truth is finally coming to light. Only ten percent of the so-called recycled plastic in the world actually gets recycled. Read more

The Ride

Lean into the curve                                   as the road clings to                                                                       the rubber beneath.                                 Read more

Oct 16,2021

I stood on the top floor of the building and looked toward the lake. The sky was covered in grey and black, ominous clouds hovered over the mountains in the distance. Would it start to rain again?  I shrugged off my apprehension and continued to set my ropes. I had a job to do. Hanging off the side of high-rises used to be a daily routine for me. Now it was an occasional thing. I was replacing windows on the Read more

Vaccine mandates, a controversial policy that has added to the division in our world. Quebec was forced to delay the mandate they introduced last month.  I was surprised to see that so many health care workers and public employees have refused to get the jab. Refused to be vaccinated. Some have not refused, some have just not bothered. Why not? It has become a battleground in the coronaverse. I never expected that we would be here. I’m sure if two Read more

October 11, 2021 Thanksgiving Monday

It was the second Thanksgiving living in the coronaverse. A day to reflect on all we have to be thankful for.  I am thankful for my family. My wife is a wonderful woman who is my rock, I don’t know what I would do without her. My daughter is a beautiful girl who is searching for herself in the chaos of the new world she is growing up in. I miss my Dad and dream of him often. My sister Read more

Oct 7, 2021 Road Trip

Barrman mounted his Honda ST 1300 and looked into the bright sky. How long will you stay with me? He asked the sunshine. The glorious yellow glow lit the sky and warmed his heart.  But only seconds into the ride the Fifty-one-year-old kid stopped and turned back. The chill in the autumn air gave him pause. This ride called for long underwear. It was early October and the glorious rays of a fall day beamed down. In the shadows, the Read more
