A Sonnet For a Fish

Published by Victor Barr on

From the depths comes the one he seeks
It is pulling, turning, diving in resistance
Above the surface it turns and peaks
Reeling faster he narrows the distance

It swims away and out screams the line
Pulling harder now he reels in his prize
He stretches and cranks in search of a sign
He reefs harder reeling and feeling its size

In the distance he sees it leap
From the depths to the surface
He hopes it is the one to keep
And pulling faster – it is a race

He grabs the net and lands his fish
He can’t wait to eat his delicious dish
