We saw a double rainbow this evening. It was an amazing sight indeed. It filled the sky, it filled our eyes, and it filled our souls. The colours were bright and the rays of the sun lit up the evening to illuminate with reds, blues, and yellows above the valley below. Krista and I walked to the top of the hill to get the full view. I wanted to yell to the world “look at the rainbow!” I pointed at Read more…

I was woken up by a strange alarm sound this morning. I didn’t recognize the odd noise, I just knew it had to be an alarm. My daughter’s phone was making strange sounds. I resisted the urge to throw it out the window and merely turned off the alarm… the second time it went off. 6 am was way too early for my liking, but my daughter was determined to make the first ferry. In a moment of weakness, I Read more…

We began our day packing up and readying ourselves to vacate our peaceful haven by the river and the sea. It was time to make our way south to Victoria and Sidney. Tomorrow we will return to the mainland and our lives at home. In the meantime, we have another day to enjoy Vancouver Island. Krista has an aunt and uncle in Qualicum Beach. It was on the way to Victoria. A stop seemed like a good idea. In the Read more…

I awoke to the gentle drumming of raindrops on a tin roof. A sound that has a double edge effect. While pleasant sounding, it’s usually not very pleasant outside. I opened the patio door and was greeted by the fresh aroma of morning rain. The smell was invigorating and cleansing and I chose to step outside and embrace the moment. Until I started to get wet. I ducked back inside and headed for the coffee pot. I always think of Read more…

Fire

Starting slowly, with proper ignition Licking upward with red and yellow fingers Warmer, faster it begins to consume flames erupt in the right situation   She begins her dance of heat and consumption More fuel needs to be added In order to continue with the reactions She grows, seeking continual resurrection   Faster, the reaction commits to the path of least resistance Like a ballerina dancing, swirling Higher, faster the reaction continues adding more fuel, the flames grow higher without Read more…

I am sitting by another burning glory of a fire. Another day to reflect on, I again share my story. I hope that everyone who shares my story continues to enjoy. I am finding my muse and myself in these daily moments of reflection. I encourage everyone to do the same, to spend a moment a day in reflection. It’s good for the soul. Campbell River is a pretty seaside community in the centre of Vancouver Island. It feels like Read more…

Road trip! Today was an escape day, a day to go on the road. After much internal debate and some external discussion, we all went to Vancouver Island today. A family trip instead of a motorcycle ride on my own. I wanted to spend some quality time with my kid, I didn’t want to leave Krista behind to deal with teenage energy. Twenty years ago I would have leaped at the chance to ride my bike to quote a job; Read more…

I went to work this morning. As I crossed the bridge rain started to fall. Rain was not something I could work in. my gaze turned to the lake. The lake glistened like a mirror; the flat water was disturbed only with the passage of a lonely boat fishing beside the bridge. I had to go to my boat, I had the wakeboards and some snacks. Captain Rob has a learn to wakeboard trip on Friday. I went past my Read more…

Vapour trails are missing from the skies overhead. Brad mentioned it on our evening walk. I had noticed it, but did not put much thought into it. Planes have almost disappeared from our world. We looked up into the deep blue sky and there was an emptiness that has not been there in my lifetime. Jet trails have vanished. I wonder how many airlines will survive. An industry that used to be crucial to the economy of the world has Read more…

Sunday morning came again. I returned to the garden and finished the painful therapy of weeding that I began last week. My back complained silently as I removed the weeds that infected our garden. If only I could remove the weeds that infect our world. Thirteen days ago a black American was murdered by a police officer while three others stood by and watched it happen. Americans erupted in protest, riots occurred and America still burns. Canada has had its Read more…
