After fifteen months of restrictions and fear, we finally have a plan. In our beautiful province of British Columbia, the government has announced a roadmap to return to normal.

I hope they can follow the plan and we can return to normal on September 7.

Meanwhile, people in Manitoba are dying and their health care system is overwhelmed. Manitoba has sent people from the ICUs to other provinces. While we look at recovery here in BC our friends and neighbours east of us are suffering.

Dr Bonnie Henry’s voice cracked with emotion as she announced the re-opening of our province. I watched with relief and hope as our Premier and our Cheif health officer shared the stage and announced the plan to open things back up and return to normal.

It started today. Indoor dining has opened back up and many restrictions on gathering have been eased. Ten people can gather together outside and we can connect again. Not that many weren’t doing so anyway.

The plan includes four steps. Mid-June is the next step to recovery. On July 1 we may even able to remove our hated masks. Will this mean we can have a real summer once more? I hope… The magic number is seventy percent and when September 7 arrives and hospitalizations are down all restrictions will be lifted. It has been a long road to a plan.

Let’s hope enough people get vaccinated and we can return to normal.

There is a light at the end of the long tunnel we have been living in. For so much time we have been flailing around in the dark. I hope the light we see is not an oncoming train…

We just need to stay diligent for the next three months. I look forward to the return of concerts, sports and indoor dining.

Most of all I look forward to hugs.
