After yesterday’s adventure I was ready to hang low and stay home today. I made my wife a gourmet breakfast; scrambled eggs with chorizo. I have often thought about starting a actual bed and breakfast. Krista thinks I’m crazy. I’m a pretty good cook so I think it would be a fun way to entertain.

We started out our day by walking down to the nursery and getting our veggies for the garden. Peppers, tomatoes, and lettuce, we were getting ready to plant our salads for this coming summer. Steve our neighbour saw us walking home and he suggested I need a haircut. When we returned home I looked at our long grass and decided that it was time for a cut. If I can’t have one at least the grass can get a trim. I am starting to enjoy my walks in the yard pushing a lawn mower. I wonder if I will feel the same way next year.

Our neighbour Matt and his family stopped by and asked if they could bring their little toddler over to bounce on our trampoline. I smiled and welcomed them. The four of them returned, and connected on our trampoline. It was really nice to watch a family interact, the love and connection they shared. The smallest, a baby boy of less than six months, quietly snuggled into moms arms while dad and his 18 month old daughter played. It was truly magically to watch a small child experience things for the first time. “ Bounce “ she said and giggled. I remembered the days when my daughter was little. I miss those days but I love my kid just the way she is. I miss her when she is away from me. We can never go back; all we can do is go forward.

I built another rock wall today, nothing huge but it looked pretty good when it was done. My wife came out we stood back and admired my work. It was a simple day today. A day of observation and relaxation. Then we realized we need to go to the store. In an instant the tension built up..

London Drugs is a smaller store so my wife figured it was safer than going to Superstore. We got in and grabbed our small amount of supplies and got in line. The new normal is everywhere there are the circles on the floor. Social distance the circles said. Some people just didn’t seem to get the concept. I had to tell a kid in line behind my wife to back up because he was too close. He shrugged and backed up but it was pretty obvious he wasn’t taking things seriously. We escaped the store, picked up some Chinese food and went home to enjoy our dinner.

I ended my day by watching the Kindness Dairies on Netflix. A show where the host drives from Alaska to the bottom of Argentina, relying on the kindness of others. He pays it back by giving gifts of kindness as he went. I enjoyed observing his connecting with some people that have nothing and still gave of themselves what they do have. I believe in the kindness of people. I believe in the love that we are all capable of. I believe we are destined for better days. I believe.
