It was another Monday in the coronaverse. Sixty-three Mondays ago I began my journal. It has been a journey of self-discovery writing down my observations since the beginning of the pandemic that swept the world In early March 2020. The world ground to a halt back on those fateful first days as Covid19 circled the globe.

Fear stalked through the planet as the strange new viral infection took lives and changed history. Confusion took over and the unknown viral foe caused social, mental, and economic hardships not seen since the second world war.

Lockdowns became the solution to the situation and we all paused. It felt like we were living on a perpetual Monday. No one knew how long it would last, we hoped it would be over by summer. Parts of the world locked down hard. In China where it all began, there was no movement and everything stopped. In Canada, America, and Europe; governments tried to find a balance between freedom and lockdown.

History has shown what worked – sort of… China is back open and normal, whatever that means… other countries like New Zealand locked down hard and are well on their way to a return to normal. Meanwhile, in the “free” world, we have suffered from three waves of infections and dissension. Some people fear the virus and others fear the lockdown and the government over-reach.

I fear the division will last much longer than the virus and its after-effects.

In Manitoba, they are suffering from a wave of infections that have over-loaded the healthcare system. Yet in some of the hardest-hit regions, the vaccine up-take is under twenty-five percent. If people don’t take the vaccine and don’t wear masks then it isn’t surprising that the healthcare system has been over loaded with covid cases. Conspiracy theories abound and we are trapped between a viral and a societal foe.

Now as June springs forth and the world opens up we have hope for an end to this pandemic. I was watching hockey from Boston where the arena was full of maskless fans. I hope that in the next few months travel restrictions will be lifted and we can attend mass events without masks here in Canada. They say by September we could be back to normal. I doubt we will ever be normal but at least we will be free from the viral enemy that has changed the way we live.

Stay kind and stay sane, Monday will be over and the weekend will soon be here again.

Who the “h..l” wants Normal?? Normal is what reigned to bring about the atrocities inflicted on the native peoples. Normal is what has been justification for the rape of women and men and children.
It’s time to celebrate the opportunities this pandemic has brought/is bringing about! Throughout your blog. We don’t need a constant re-counting of of the negative effects. Stating that story over and over almost negates the few lines devoted to hope.
