I never thought I would ride a camel.

But there I was teetered on top the exotic beast, swaying with the movement of his steps. The animal moved in line with the one in front of him. My only thought was the poor beast must be tired of carrying people for a short ride through the bottom of this canyon. We plodded along for about fifteen minutes and got back off the humped creature.

If the ride had ended then I would have thought we paid too much, even though we got the ride by going to a timeshare presentation.

We have done the presentations almost every time we come to Cabo. It’s part of the experience now. We tour a fancy place, we have a free breakfast and a couple margarita’s. Then when it’s over we say no, they push harder and we say no again. And again. It is draining dealing with the salesmen, they do try hard to make it seem like a great deal. But we don’t like the all inclusive resorts with the bland food and weak drinks. We prefer experiencing the real parts of Mexico and staying away from the resorts. So it’s not hard to say no.

The reward for our time lost to the presentation was the activities they gave us. It started out with a camel ride. And was followed up by ziplining. The actual camel ride was only a small part of the experience with the camels. We learned about them and where they came from. We also got a free lunch and a margarita. It was a cool experience, one I was glad to have. My daughter even got kissed by a camel, it is another memory for her to take with her.

Ziplining was almost the opposite of the camel tour. Where one was slow and easy, the other was fast and intense.

They connected us by our feet to our arms, all three of us lined up.

In an instant we were gone. Flying down the line like birds in the air. Blood flowed in my veins and a thrill shot through my soul. This was not for the faint of heart. I loved the adrenaline, the rush.

The speed.

I screamed in delight as we flew through the air. I found my blood pulsed faster and my excitement rose when my lungs let out a wail of excitement. My ski buddies know the sound and now so do the people on the valley bottom.

“Woooo hooooo!!!!”

I was very proud of my wife as she over came her fear and climbed on to the line behind me. After the ride was done I saw the glow in her eyes and the lift of her spirit. It was an experience of a lifetime. My daughter was bouncing with the energy and we all connected in a moment of exhilaration.

It was a day we can take with us. A day we won’t forget.
