Springtime in the Okanagan burst forth this week.  Sunshine and blue sky embraced the world below and it was time to stop and smell the flowers blooming in our wonderful valley. May long weekend arrived and there was a vibrant feeling of renewal filling the air.

After a couple of weeks of struggling with work and with my teenage daughter’s angst, I feel I have crested the wave and will try to swim like hell to stay on top. Life is like a river that continues to flow no matter what we do. I have been in a series of rapids and waterfalls the last two weeks. When things go wrong sometimes it feels like I am falling into an abyss. It’s hard to remember that there is an end to everything, and what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.

After problems at work and with my struggling teen there was finally a victory in life. The rapids have calmed and I can see a stretch of flat water in the near distance.

It starts with the first tour of the year on Lake Okanagan. Our new boat is ready to go and I look forward to taking a group of nurses around our amazing lake.

This May long weekend is a pivotal time in the coronaverse. Tuesday it is expected the province will ease some of the restrictions we have been living under. I hope they can open up travel once again; even just within our beautiful province.

If they say we can move a little freer once again it could be like a dam bursting. There is so much pent-up energy inside people that it will be a tidal wave flowing into our valley.

People need to feel freedom, and the restrictions for the past year have led to so many mental health issues we need to be given hope. I hope this is the last long weekend where we are told to stay home. I hope that more people get the vaccine before the virus mutates again and another wave of infections washes over our part of the world.

The weather warms my heart and fills me with hope for the future. Hope…a feeling and a word that we need to hold on to and embrace.

I hope you have an amazing May Long Weekend. I hope that one day very soon we can all float calmly down the river of life.
