4 20 21

It was 420 in the Coronaverse today. This year 420 didn’t seem to mean anything. To me, it has always been a symbolic day in the struggle to legalize marijuana. I don’t really care anymore, life keeps dropping f-bombs on us all.

Case counts have been rising in the lower mainland. Ontario and the Maritimes have closed down. Here in BC, they have told us to stop all non-essential travel in the province. We are being asked to hunker down and stay home. Our governments are trying to limit the spread of our viral foe. They have promised to set up roadside checkpoints to keep people from leaving their own health authority.

And people cry about tyranny.

Is it really about controlling people or controlling the spread of the virus? Is it the same thing? I feel the anxiety roll through our city. At the same time, I feel nothing when I am in the workplace. It’s a very strange dichotomy that has taken over lately. Many people seem to think and act like the pandemic is over. Yet case counts surge and restrictions mount.

At the end of the day, I sat and had a 420 in celebration of the day. It was just another day of surging numbers. Yet everyone seemed numb to it all. I sat in the sunshine and tried to numb the pain of it all. The emotional and physical pain has become intense lately and a 420 on the afternoon deck felt like the thing to do.

Too bad it isn’t that easy to numb ourselves from the pain much of society has been subjected to by the viral and digital foes facing this world.

Sunshine warmed my face and embraced my soul. The simple act of soaking up the afternoon sun gave me hope. Soon the summer sun will warm our piece of paradise. I hang on to the hope we will beat back our viral foe and be free to travel again. It’s the digital foe that will be harder to beat back. We must all unite in love and understanding to defeat the division in our digital world.
