July 8, 2023 Time Flies When You’re Having Fun.

A week flew by in the blink of an eye. One minute I was watching the sky light up with Canada Day Fireworks and the next I’m rolling the throttle and riding to the top of the mountain. Big White Mountain.  Summer has enveloped the valley with a blanket of heat. After days of movement and stress I got on my trusty Honda and rode to paradise. A mountain paradise. I rode through the city, sweat oozing off my tired Read more…

July 1, 2023 Canada Day, Boat Down

I set out in the morning full of optimism, undercut with a jagged edge of nerves. The wind was brisk and the trees shook in the morning breeze. I had a tour of the lake with a group of girls celebrating a stagette party. Then it was off to Peachland for the fireworks. Captain Rob had a bigger day yet, he was on two tours of the lake and his last one was a trip up the lake to pick Read more…

June 23, 2023 Lost at Sea

Rahima felt the people pressing against her. Her daughter held her hand tight, they sat crammed amongst the mass of women and children in the ship’s hull. There was no room to move and the smell overwhelmed her. It was all she could do to keep from letting everything in her guts seeth forth. There was nothing in her stomach anyway. The last drink of water she saved for her daughter. The Pakistani woman wondered if there would be any Read more…

June 15, 2023 Eddy’s Kingdom

The movie screen was filled with his face. Eddy Haymour sat there, larger than life. He stared into the camera, “It is my Island, and I want it back.” the words echoed through the movie theatre. It was a local screening of the movie Eddy’s Kingdom. We were a couple of the lucky ones who got tickets before they sold out. The story has been told countless times over the years. It is a story of tragedy and triumph, a Read more…

Death In The Window – Chapter 1 June 14, 2023

Chapter 1 Kamlei stared at the plastic test kit, her hands shaking as she waited. She’d missed her time of the month and felt torn inside as her whole body trembled. She took a second test to make sure. There could be no doubt about the results. The blue plus sign told her all she needed to know. Her heart pounded as she paced through her large apartment. The soft carpet caressed the soles of her feet. Every part of Read more…

June 11 2023 Ride To The Mountain

The forecast called for rain. Barrman’s boat tour asked to postpone for fear of the oncoming storm. A storm that never arrived. He sat inside and watched the sun peak out from behind the clouds, he looked at Kaydee, “Should we go for a ride to Bg White?”  “The forecast isn’t the best to ride a motorcycle.” Kaydee stared out the window and shrugged, “It looks like rain.” Barrman grabbed the phone and called his buddy Mick who lived at Read more…

June 5, 2023 Smoke On The Water

My stomach sank and I felt a raw tinge of fear in my bones when I walked out of the door and sniffed the morning air. The smell of smoke wafted into my senses.  With the amazingly warm temperatures has come the nemesis we all dread. Fire. Only weeks after Alberta was battling huge blazes in the northern part of the province and days after the east coast fought the same battle, BC has come face to face with a Read more…

June 1, 2023 That went fast

So busy, life has gotten almost out of control busy. The last three weeks went by in a blur. I’ve had so little time to stop and reflect, little time to it and write. It feels far too chaotic. I almost miss the days of covid when no one could go out and we were forced to stay home – almost. I feel bad I haven’t taken the time to write about all of my adventures lately. But I’ve been Read more…

May 17, 2023

The sun glowed in the distance. It was a red ball in the sky, shrouded in smoke. Smoke that covered vast tracks of Western Canada. The heat simmered in the valley and it felt like your typical August day. Except this was Mid-May. Northern Alberta is a blaze and the smoke has spread for thousands of kilometres. Reminders of a tragic time a few years ago when part of Fort MacMurray was consumed in a fiery inferno.  Some people still Read more…

May 14, 2023 Happy Mothers Day

To all mothers everywhere, I hope you had a fantastic day. A day filled with love and connection.  I lost my mother just over a year ago and lost my mom thirty-two years before that. At least I was lucky enough to have two mothers in my life. My adopted mom passed away when I was nineteen years old. She was only fifty-three, way too young. Then seventeen years later I met my biological mom. I had the great fortune Read more…
