January 22 Kamloops

A crisp breeze blew down the streets of Kamloops as I parked my truck in a small lot in the downtown core. I was working in the mid-sized city in the heartland of BC. As I exited my truck I felt the chill winter air of a January day. I walked towards the front of my Chevy Dually and headed for the management company inside the building in front of me. I was there to drop off a business card Read more

January 20 Inauguration Day

“It is my pleasure to introduce the forty-sixth President of the United States, Joseph R Biden Junior.” The words echoed in the cab of my truck over my radio as I cruised the Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops this morning. A smile crossed my face as a moment many have looked forward to came to pass. Trump was no longer the so-called leader of the ‘free’ world. Joe Biden was now the new ring leader of the American political circus. Some Read more

January 17

Sunshine glistened off the freshly fallen snow that coated the ski runs. The intermediate and beginner runs all funneled toward the dual chairlifts of the Snowghost and the Ridge Rocket express. Crisp morning air sparkled with ice crystals that danced above the newly coated world. With anticipation, we put our gear on and stepped outside to greet the day. It was another glorious day at our mountain home of Big White. The real world hung in the shadows as we Read more

January 12

I walked away from one of my roles in the community yesterday. It was with an uncertain heart that I resigned my position from The Greater Westside Board of Trade. Time is the most precious asset we have, donating my time to something I no longer felt engaged with was unfair to the board and myself. I loved being a part of something bigger in the community and I was honoured to have been nominated to serve on the board. Read more

January 11, 2021 Playoff football

This weekend was the beginning of the NFL playoffs. I sat and watched gridiron heroes play a child’s game for a king’s ransom. In the coronaverse, the live football experience has changed drastically, much like the rest of the sports world. Millionaire athletes played a season of football in empty stadiums. These athletes continued to line the pockets of the billionaire owners. I found it difficult to care. I have always enjoyed watching football, preferably the Canadian version. Watching NFL Read more

January 6 peaceful? Transition of power…

“Capitol under siege” the headline screamed on the TV screen. Our world was rocked again by the news that unfolded today in the US capitol. Rioters stormed the capitol building and American democracy was under fire today. I wish I was more surprised this happened, after the last six weeks of misinformation and claims of cheating, I almost expected it. Trump incited his people to attack and disrupt the certification of the election. Of the three former presidents’ still alive, Read more

January 5 2021

I peeled my eyes slowly open. The clock lit the darkness, 6:10 it read. It was time to move, time to go to the mountain and try my injured knee on the slopes. I rolled over and crawled out of bed. There aren’t many things that get me out of bed at six in the morning. Skiing is one of them. I fired up my truck and cruised towards the morning sunrise. The icy roads were slick with an early Read more

January 3 2021

A new year has dawned upon the surface of our world. Hope has risen and they have started distributing vaccines to health workers and the most vulnerable. The time has come for us to embrace the lessons of the last year; lessons in patience, love, and in compassion. Will this new year end with everyone coming together again? I hope it ends differently than it has begun. In many parts of the world 2021 began much like 2020 ended; in Read more

20:20 New Years Eve 2020

It is another day in the year of the coronaverse. The final day. Does a new year change anything? Do we magically get a gift, a reprieve, a time for renewal? Or is it simply another day in the week? A day that ends in a why. It is 20:20 on new years eve. A time as ironic as it is symbolic. Ironically the province changed the rules yesterday. Now as of 8 pm there is nowhere in the province Read more

Monday, December 28, 2020

Today was the last Monday of 2020… a year that was chocked full of Mondays. A year most of us would agree we are glad is ending. Friday is a new year, a new beginning. The year 2020 will stand throughout history as a turning point. It was a pivotal time in history like 1914, 1812, and 1066, infamous years that echo through time. 2020; the time the earth stood still and then lurched ahead in uncertainty and confusion. The Read more
