Vapour trails are missing from the skies overhead. Brad mentioned it on our evening walk. I had noticed it, but did not put much thought into it. Planes have almost disappeared from our world. We looked up into the deep blue sky and there was an emptiness that has not been there in my lifetime. Jet trails have vanished.

I wonder how many airlines will survive. An industry that used to be crucial to the economy of the world has slowed to a crawl. Travel restrictions and fear have removed the demand for a much-loved activity. Pollution has certainly been reduced, and our skies are more attractive for it. First it was the Boing Max 8 737 that was grounded. Now two-thirds of the world’s aircraft sit on the tarmac somewhere.

I haven’t heard anyone talk lately how the chemicals in the vapour trails are being dropped from the sky to control us. As a species, we seem to have the need to find things we don’t understand and come up with an explanation. Sometimes the explanation can take a sinister form. In today’s world of mass information, this can result in mass disinformation. Chemtrails, as these were known as were supposed to be a result of chemicals put into the exhaust. They were released into the atmosphere to control our minds or to control the weather. The science is much more boring. Behind the airplane, water vapour is produced by the combustion of fuel in airplane engines. This then condenses upon soot particles in the plane’s exhaust. The government apparently is always trying to find new ways to control us. Now it’s 5G.

I don’t believe that 5G is an insidious plot to control the world. I do have concerns with the amount of electric impulses being generated in our everyday lives. Wifi, Bluetooth, and many other radio waves are an invisible threat to our health. When I work on roofs there are now many towers that are there with large warning signs. ‘Contact the phone company to shut off before working near these towers’, is a warning sign that we must adhere to. Five years ago there were very few signs like that. Is that because the technology has gotten stronger and more dangerous? Is it because they have found that the technology was more dangerous than originally thought? Regardless, there are definitely higher cases of cancer today; is this because of our rampant technology? Is our race to advance our communication and technology a far greater risk than any invisible threat like the coronavirus.

I question many things, one thing I don’t question is the beauty of our world and the people on it. We walked home connected, we enjoyed another sunset. The clouds aglow with a red hue, faces in the sky stared back at us. Absent of any contrails or human influence, darkness sets on another day. There will always be hope for a brighter tomorrow.
