April 30
Wow! We are at the end of April! The strangest April of my life. The strangest April of all our lives. It has been a good month to stay at home and de-clutter our lives. Yard work, gardening, everyone seems to be outside and getting things done. Luckily the weather has been very mild and rain has been very scarce.
Captain Rob showed up today and we started to get our boat ready. If they let us, Luxury Lake Tours will operate this year. Plans are being created for social distancing on our twenty-five foot Campion Biltmore. We pulled out the big mack daddy tube: the Wow tube. I hooked up the vacuum to inflate the tube. I’ve found myself lacking focus, unable to concentrate. Our Wow tube wasn’t wowing us, it wasn’t inflating at all. That’s when Rob informed me the vacuum was hooked up backwards. We laughed. I sighed,. We succeeded in inflating the tube with the connections on the right end. We are one step closer to summer, one step closer to a normalized state. Our boat is one step closer to being ready for the lake.
Marijke has her friends over tonight. They climbed the ladder to the bedroom deck again. I asked her why the bedroom deck? She shrugged; they are having a social distance party! I’m not sure they really know how to social distance. I remind them; two metres apart! They try, but it feels like they think the whole thing is a game. Now there are six teenage kids up on the deck and they are having fun. I think the fact they need to have fun together outweighs the actual risks they are taking. I hope I am right.
I think they are on the deck because it is hard to get to. People have always tried to challenge themselves, push the limits and go one step further; Climb the mountain or cross the seas. The rambunctious group of teens need to push limits and spread their wings. I think this is a good sign. We will keep spreading our wings. We will keep pushing the limits. We will climb the mountains of this time.
