I have never felt so much fear for my future in my life.

I was 19 when I started my business and I had the world by the tail. I was going to clean windows and then become a writer.

It all seemed so simple.

So easy.

Back then the cost of doing business and the cost of life itself was real. Things were reasonable. We bought coats made in Canada by Sun Ice, they were expensive, yes, but even they were within reach of the working man. Insurance was affordable and so were a dozen eggs.

Now insurance prices are out of reach of small businesses and most criminal insurance companies won’t even look at the little guy.

Forget the price of groceries. Rent and everything else has skyrocketed out of reach to the working man.

They blame it on covid, China, and supply chain issues. But it is the fault of governments both conservative and liberal that allowed working-class jobs to leave the country in the name of reduced spending.

It made us vulnerable. It made us weak.

Small mom-and-pop stores couldn’t survive because they were undercut by big box stores.

And the government did nothing to stop it.

Then they lifted restrictions on insurance and health care and the next thing we knew we were paying through the nose for everything. All in the name of the “free” market. Governments loosened the regulations on things and allowed large corporations to bully the small guy, to rule the lives of the working man. People claim unions are to blame but if it wasn’t for unions where would we be?

And along came the internet.

Suddenly we had access to global markets and access to stuff cheaper from overseas. So our local providers died. And in the hoopla about social media and companies like Amazon, the working people were left behind.

Then came covid.

Now after 2 and half years of changes they advertised a new normal. A new world order. Indeed we need a new normal because the old one was falling apart. But the one that has taken over does not care about you or me. It only cares about the bottom line.

It’s capitalism you know…

But why not a retro world order? Where things were about people, not money. Life was about helping each other not profit.

A great man once said the world is becoming a ‘me’ society instead of a ‘we’ society. That man was Tommy Douglas. He said that over 50 years ago.

No one listened.

Now some people listen to a man like Elon Musk who is all about himself and his profitability. People seem to care more about Twitter and its so-called freedom of expression than they do about the people who have been run over by this megalomaniac who came in and is taking over the world.

And the more I talk to people and they all agree the world is fucked. Forgive me for my profane word but there aren’t many other words that work, it is indeed fucked. Prices have increased by thirty, fourty, and in some cases fifty percent for basic things like coffee, milk, and eggs. Coffee might cost more to bring across the globe because of the insane increase in fuel, but why milk and eggs? We grow cows and chickens in our own country why should we be paying six dollars for a dozen eggs that used to cost four dollars?

It’s because big corporations can.

The common farmer who is raising the chickens sure as hell isn’t getting fifty percent more for his products. The regular worker’s wages aren’t keeping up.

In answer, the big banks raise interest rates in some insane idea that it will lower prices. Hmmm, so my line of credit went from five hundred per month to one thousand, and that somehow will bring prices down?

Nothing makes sense anymore.

So I watch the cost of my boats, my house, and my life surge through the roof. I have no work and hope I can live off my savings long enough to publish a book and somehow get lucky and write a best-seller.

It is time to focus on writing the book. Forget the fear and buckle down. My story will develop and I will share it here. I have hired a coach and editor to help me and I will succeed.

I have no other choice.

I can’t do a regular JOB so all I can do is follow my dream and stop procrastinating. The world is fucked anyway so why not just write the book and live my best life.

It’s all I can do.
