February 15, 2022 Dancing days are here again.
We can dance again!
At least those people who are coordinated and vaccinated can dance again.
Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that as of February 17, BC has lifted most restrictions on the lives of people in BC. No more limits on indoor events, no more limits on restaurants and bars can reopen. People can dance and mingle. At least for those people willing to wear a mask and show their vaccine passport.
It is a step in the right direction. It is an indication the end of the pandemic is near. We hope…
Yet the controversial vaccine passports are still in effect in BC. While the majority of Canadian Provinces have announced an end to the passport program, in BC they have yet to announce a plan to get rid of them. The last announcement said we would be stuck with the program until June 30.
Why?
There are still too many questions and not enough answers. The stats show that 85 percent of people in BC have received at least two doses of the vaccine for covid 19 and 90 percent have received at least one. So the question many people have is when is enough, enough?
The WHO suggested that 95 percent need to be vaccinated for herd immunity to the measles and 80 percent for polio. Many health authorities pegged the number at the 85 percent threshold. So are we done yet?
As we used to say to our parents from the back seat of the car – are we there yet?
In the meantime, protesters are standing outside of high schools harassing students and others are blocking access to the border with the United States. We know these people want to be done with the pandemic. But why the hate? Why the intimidation and violence. In Alberta, they found a cache of weapons in one of the trucks blocking the Coutts border crossing. This is Canada, what the hell are people doing with weapons?
It sure feels like a disaster movie that still can’t find a way to end.
Every day is a step forward. I just hope this isn’t like when Lucy holds the football for Charlie Brown. Every time we think it’s over the virus pulls a Lucy and yanks the ball away.
And we end up on our proverbial asses again.
Soon I hope the masks are left behind and we can dance with each other and see our smiling faces again.
Tomorrow we dance…
One step at a time.
