I have stopped watching our fuzzy faced PM. I have stopped watching the news altogether. It’s all the same, yet in the real world things are starting to return to the way they were before we went into lock down. Traffic is getting heavier all the time. People are walking, beaches are filling up. Some group was going to protest at Stuart Park the other day.
Why bother?
It seems like a waste of time and energy. No one will listen. People will do what they feel is safe no matter what our lovely Dr. Bonnie Henry says. The world is changing, not necessarily the way we would like or even expect; it’s changing nonetheless.
I had to pop into a store today and ran into an old acquaintance that worked there. He is a good guy but has suggested things that I may not agree with. He has theories in reference to the shape of our wonderful earth. He leaned around his plexiglass protection and smiled at me.
“Strange days indeed.”
I had to agree.
I couldn’t agree when he said there were no more conspiracy theories, just conspiracies. “plandemic” he said, and gave me a wry smile. “I won’t start talking about it. We can just agree to disagree.”
I shrugged my shoulders uncertain what to say. I understood where he was coming from. I had no answer and knew it was pointless to offer any rebuttal. I understand why so many people are muttering the word plandemic.
I happened to tune into CBC radio today and Dr. Henry was calmly telling us the numbers in BC. No deaths today due to Covid19. A victory. Yet the numbers are so low that it is baffling why they continue with the reports. Why the daily briefings? Is this the government’s form of misdirection?
I have stayed away from all the conspiracy theory stuff. There is enough of that out there. I feel overloaded by the misinformation constantly being shared. Did we really need to close our economy to the degree we did? If we hadn’t done that would we be faced with death and an overloaded health care system? We will never know. I think our beleaguered officials have done the best they could. The numbers are so low because of what we did. Yet now people are restless.
As our society opens back up, will people practice physical distancing? Will people refrain from gatherings of over fifty people? If we can maintain that until the virus has completely disappeared or we have a vaccine, then we will have won. Is the price we paid worth the victory? Today I only have questions. I hope someday we have answers.
